When Texas Secedes, We'll Take the Rangers

This is largely just a reason for me to blog about one of my favorite TV news shows, Countdown with Keith Olbermann. Olbermann has a new segment on his nightly show called the "WTF!?! Moment." Tonight's topic that had him asking WTF? is about Texas Governor Rick Perry's ongoing talk about his state possibly seceding from the union if "Washington continues to force programs onto the states." To illustrate just how ridiculous this secession talk is, Olbermann run downs a list of all of the valuable federal services and programs Texas would lose if it went out on its own, like FEMA, NASA, all of the military bases there, Pell Grants, the FDA, CDC, FBI, NSA, U.S. post offices, and more. It's pretty funny. He also compares Texas to Canada and says that the state would lose several of its professional sports teams due to not being able to get revenue from national TV sports deals. He sends Charlotte a shout out when he says, "So take your choice: Astros or Rangers. One of them is going to move to Charlotte."

  1. Haha this is great. I shared it w/ a co-worker that is a Texas native and talks (jokingly) about secession often.
